What happened to them since then? Are they in jail or not? Why are they still outside and not inside the jails?

Sunday World has seen an unrest report circulating among ANC and government leaders that forms part of the South African Police Service (SAPS) investigation into the large-scale looting of malls and burning of factories, during what has been described as the country’s worst unrest which has leftover 200 people dead and the destruction of property running into billions of rand.

According to the report, a plan was hatched on July 4 in KwaZulu- Natal to render the country ungovernable as part of a campaign to force the government to free former president Jacob Zuma, who is serving a 15-month jail term at Estcourt Correctional Centre for contempt of court.

A high-ranking ANC leader is said to have given instructions to his supporters to burn all trucks on the N2, N3 and other major regional roads “to block all roads leading to the Durban and Richard’s Bay harbour; to loot all shopping malls and warehouses and to use lethal force when fired upon by the armed forces”.

The house of Deputy Chief Justice Raymond Zondo, whose legal action led to Zuma’s arrest, was also a target, along with the blocking of all roads leading to Estcourt Correctional Services facility.

The mobs were also instructed to “bring all economic activity in KwaZulu-Natal and Gauteng to a halt” and “agitate the unemployed, street kids, criminals and thugs” to render the country ungovernable until the leader becomes president of the country.

The status of the report appears to be under scrutiny. A female cabinet minister has denounced it as the work of information peddlers while her cabinet counterpart said the report was serious enough not to be dismissed.

Ramaphosa said it was clear that the events of the past week were nothing less than a deliberate, coordinated and well-planned att ack on the country’s democracy.

According to preliminary reports compiled by the national joint operational and intelligence structure, extensive damage was caused to 161 malls and shopping centres, 11 warehouses, eight factories and 161 liquor outlets and distributors.

Over 2 550 people have been arrested in connection with the unrest, while 212 people died. Ramaphosa further said that the chaos was used as a smokescreen to carry out economic sabotage.

He conceded that the government had been poorly prepared and did not have the capabilities and plans in place to act swiftly and decisively.
A source in the security cluster said police were targeting elements in the taxi industry and hostel dwellers in their crackdown on those behind the unrest. Divisions in the country’s security apparatus emanating from the ANC factional battles, lack of timeous intelligence and deployment of law-enforcement agencies were some of the issues blamed on the poor response to the unrest, sources inside government and the ANC said.

Sunday World understands that the future of Police Minister Bheki Cele, Defence Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula and State Security Minister Ayanda Dlodlo and bureaucrats in the security establishment hang in the balance, with Ramaphosa under pressure from inside and outside the ANC to use a reshuffle to clean up the armed forces.

“The truth is that some of the people in the ANC and in the state are behind this.
“Very soon it will become clear. The president must act on some of the ministers in the security cluster,” said a source close to Ramaphosa. Another senior SAPS crime intelligence official blamed the failure to deal with the violence effectively on the divisions in the security forces. “We have a divided government. People opposed to the president have their own agendas,” he said.

Dr Johan Burger, a senior researcher and consultant in the justice and violence programme at the Institute for Security Studies, said the recent spate of looting during which the police were outnumbered by the protesters should serve as a wake-up call for the government and the police management not to rest on their laurels.

“In KwaZulu-Natal, it’s well-coordinated, well-funded. If you look at it, strategic commercial hubs were blocked, strategic roads were blocked at really key points. It was very organized,” said Gumede, chairman of the Democracy Works Foundation, a group supporting governance in Africa.

“The arson, the looting and then the burning of malls, the burning of warehouses, I mean, that indicates a really strategic destruction of the economy of KwaZulu-Natal,” said Gumede. “There’s a whole lot of organization behind that.”

Protests in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal quickly escalated into a spree of theft in township areas, although it has not spread to South Africa’s seven other provinces, where police are on alert. Destructions and burning down of schools were also on their red revolution “protests”.

More than 2,200 people have been arrested for theft and vandalism and 117 people have died, Khumbudzo Ntshavheni, acting minister in the presidency said. Many were trampled to death in chaotic stampedes when shops were being looted, according to police.

“These are not demonstrations. This is economic sabotage and we are investigating with a view to apprehending the instigators,” Ntshavheni said at a briefing . One person has been arrested and 11 others are under surveillance for inciting and planning the unrest, she said.

Gedurende hierdie geweldadige protesaksies en rewolusie wat die regering onomwonde toegelaat en gebeur het, skreeu ten hemele. Digte roke besoedel ons hele wese op alle vlakke van regerings en gemeenskappe. Hierdie tipe sabotasie en terrorisme het ook gemaak dat daar ‘n groot besoedelingsprobleem ontstaan het met die afbrand van geboue, besighede, skole en ook op meeste paaie.

Wat skole aanbetref, is daar al lankal ‘n tendens om skole wat tegniese en ander toerusting bevat, eenvoudig gesteel word en daarna word skole afgebrand. Neem maar kennis, Bok Haram is lankal in Suid-Afrika wat juis onderrig verbied.

Wat hierdie terroriste nie besef nie, hulle word dalk in hul massas ingevoer, hetsy van ander lande of ander provinsies om werksgeleenthede en die ekonomie skade te berokken. In die tyd van die kastige virus, hardloop hulle soos springkane met geen maskers op nie en kan hierdie virus ook oral agtergelaat word. Wie toets hierdie omgewings waar hulle was?

En die publiek is alte gretig om vir die regering te luister om te gaan opruim, want dis mos nou goeie “nasie bou”. Regtig nasiebou – vir wie? Pasop vir die virus.

Sodat die terroriste net eenvoudig weer kan inkom, teiken en verder afbrand – dis hul motto.

Die erger faktore is die besoedelingsprobleme wat hul veroorsaak en nalaat, vir ons land sowel as die omgewing, riviere en oseane.

Dis ons belastingbetalers wat moet opruim, want indien water onbruikbaar is vir stede, dorpe en die landbousektor, is dit nie net skending van menseregte nie, maar die reg om te lewe.

Hierdie terroriste wat so mal gaan en afbrand, word al vir jare toegelaat om so te brand en te vernietig en die polisie wat ewigdurende koeëls vermors op sabotasie, anargie en terrorisme, is selfs skuldig daaraan. Sasria is ‘n staatsentiteit en kan ook net soveel uitbetaal. Gerieflike betalings of hoe?

Die polisie is alte gretig om vinnig persone inhegtenis te neem wat hul gemeenskappe beskerm. Wat ‘n klugspul.

Hoeveel van die terroriste wat brande stig is inhegtenis geneem en voor die hof gedaag? Dit wat KwaZulu-Natal, Gauteng en ander provinsies onlangs beleef het is sabotasie aan elkeen van ons – en hierdie misdaad is ‘n ernstige misdaad wat al ons menseregte skend – waarvan VRYHEID een is.

Die help nie die Polisie ignoreer hierdie erger situasie en neem persone in hegtenis wat hul eie gemeenskappe probeer beveilig nie.

Die sogenaamde toesprakies en persepsie van selfs die president van die land, wat ‘n vals demokrasie en vals reënboognasie uitlig is en bly vals.

Daar word al vir maande erge misdade en moorde onder die dekmantel van “curfew” gepleeg, hoeveel moorde is al opgelos? Of is dit makliker om die moorde as ‘n Covid-19 virus te beskryf?

Die vals propaganda van “white monopolie capital” word voorgehou.

Daar bestaan lankal nie meer slegs ‘n “wit monopolie kapitaal” nie – dit is wêreldwye monopolie wat alles wil beheer. Die wat so plunder weet dit – waar kom hul opdragte vandaan?

Daarom hardloop meeste partye om wetgewings te steun soos “onteiening” wat alles onder die regering wil plaas en beheer.

Onder andere, die EFF se beleid oorskadu die van die ANC-SAKP-PAC wat dit in elk geval in ANC 1955 manifes aan hul lede gee – daar is geen verskil dus tussen die hoofgroeperinge politici en die ANC en selfs die DA en selfs die ABN groepe wat almal vir een groot beheer organisasie(s) werk en ook uit vertakkinge bestaan.

Hulle is een en dieselfde. Gaan oor die minerale rykdom wat in die grond is.

Hoeveel wetgewings is al ooit sedert 1994 geskrap wat ons blankes se menseregte skend ? Die ABN groepe staan reg langs die ANC en saam George Soros se Open Society Funds wat ook deel is van Cato Instituut. Afriforum en ander liberaal verligtes kuier graag gereeld oorsee in Amerika by die Instituut wat deel is van hierdie groepe.
