“Eskom has, for a number of years, been plagued by corruption, poor governance and unlawful contracts concluded to the detriment of Eskom and, by necessary implication, SA,” CEO André de Ruyter said in a March 29 affidavit to a parliamentary committee.

Orals was hy in finansiële posisies ingedruk of bevorder.

Presenting its report titled: “No Room to Hide”, Outa’s Portfolio Director of Energy, Mr Ted Blom, said: “Not long ago Eskom was ranked among the top five utilities in the world. But how the cost and status of Eskom has dwindled can be discerned from its financial statements. Eskom never mentioned that its irregular financial activities amounted to R3bn. Its audit firm Sizwe Ntsaluba has raised concern about the R3bn that has no source documents for payments.

Sizwe Ntsaluba Gobodo is now the 5th largest audit firm in South Africa. In 1998 he joined Telkom SA as Chief Executive Officer, a position he occupied until 2005. He was responsible for listing Telkom on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) and New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) in 2003.

“The chairman of the hearing, an independent advocate, determined that he would provide the CPO with an opportunity to answer to the supplementary misconduct charges relating to Econ Oil’s relationship with Eskom and the apparent support by the CPO of the continuation of that relationship after he had joined Eskom in early 2019, before ruling on the protected disclosure application,’’ Eskom said.
In 2005, Tshitangano has faced a disciplinary hearing for 11 charges of misconduct while chief director at the Mpumalanga provincial treasury. He was later shifted to the office of the premier.
Tshitangano was subsequently appointed as a senior manager in the finance section of the Limpopo department of basic education. He acted as the chief financial officer of the department in 2011 when he blew the lid on alleged corruption in a multimillion-rand tender to supply the department with learner and teacher support material .
Eskom has dismissed its CPO Solly Tshitangano. He was suspended in February following allegations of misconduct and non-performance. He disputed the claim and instead accused Eskom CEO Andre de Ruyter of being racist.

Tshitangano was suspended for poor performance. His suspension was explained to Parliament’s Standing Committee on Public Accounts by an Eskom delegation.
De Ruyter said regarding Econ Oil, a supplier whose contract spanning from 2021 to 2017 was reviewed, Eskom was subjected to an overcharging of R1.2-billion. Econ Oil’s contract with Eskom was worth R5.2-billion and the company has reportedly challenged findings that the deal was irregular in court.

On 21 February 2021 it was stated that
De Ruyter rejected Tshitangano’s allegations of racism, arguing that, since his arrival, he has appointed nine black executives.
Tshitangano was suspended after he failed to attend board subcommittee meetings, as well as a number of meetings with De Ruyter, Eskom’s executives for human resources, people management and the company’s chief financial officer.
Andre de Ruyter, Eskom’s group chief executive officer, confirmed to News24 that Tshitangano had been suspended because of his failure to turn around the company’s procurement division. He was tasked with saving Eskom 4% of its annual spend of R140-billion on goods and services, but has been unable to do so.
“We spend R140-billion buying goods and services. We are paying more than what we should be paying. R2-billion savings is not a lot, it’s about 4% of R140-billion. That is exceptionally modest, but Solly has not delivered what was asked of him,” De Ruyter said.
De Ruyter said the procurement division is battling to implement a turnaround strategy. He said Eskom would have paid R238 000 for a wooden mop had he not intervened, but that it has until recently been paying R28 for a roll of single-ply toilet paper and R56 for a bottle of two litre milk.
“We have paid R80 000 for a single-padded knee guard. Those things go for R80 each at Builder’s Warehouse. Those are the abuses that are still going on in the system. These are the instances we know about and I can only assume that there is a lot more. If you are a functionally responsive leader, you get into your car and sort those issues out.”
