In 1993 South Africans were the 64th richest citizens in the world (out of around 193 countries then) dropping to 88th out of 201 countries in 2000 and in 2020 still lower at 110th out of 212 countries. In a space of three decades South Africans have gone from being in the world richest third of countries into the poorest half of countries.

In 1993 the third edition was published and ranked the size of South Africa as the 28th largest economy in the world. Last year the same ranking showed that South Africa was now the 38th largest economy in the world. South Africa is heading towards being an economy outside of the largest 40 economies. Once outside the largest 40 or 50 economies, it will be increasingly difficult to get on the investment and marketing radaar of companies.

PRICE INCREASES – 2021
‘No choice’ price increases are hitting South Africa hard: Mike Schüssler

Watter land is jou geld veilig? Nêrens nie. Gee asb waarborge.

RED REVOLUTION
UNREST IN SOUTH AFRICA IS ONGOING SINCE 1960 AND ESPECIALLY AFTER 1994
The 2021 violence is not the first revolution, it is ongoing since 1994. A surge of violence that started in KwaZulu-Natal has led to shops, trucks and other properties being looted and torched. Economists estimate the losses at billions of rands, but the impact on South Africa will be even greater.

STOP RACISM AND DISCRIMATING AGAINST A SMALL MINORITY WHITE GROUP OF PEOPLE AND THEIR BUSINESSES – VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS TO WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA TO ENRICH THE ELITES
Corruption, BEE, AA, Skills emigration, a failing education system, declining respect the rule of law, the threat of EWC and NHI, the ill conceived Mining Charter, cadre deployment, uncompetitive tax rates, all contribute to the cost of capital remaining well above that which would be sufficient to attract investment into real assets that would offer returns and jobs. Michael Avery is joined by former statistician general Dr Pali Lehohla, and Mike Schussler.

VIOLATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS OF WHITES IN SOUTH AFRICA. BLACK EMPOWERMENT AND AFFIRMATIVE ACTION LEGISLATIONS ARE RACISM AND NOT WORKING

There’s a small chance that interest rates could rise this week. Nedbank says it expects the South African Reserve Bank’s Monetary Policy Committee to leave interest rates unchanged when it makes an announcement tomorrow. But that the chances of a hike have increased significantly. Of 20 economists in a Bloomberg survey just over half predicted a quarter-point increase in the benchmark repo rate. Interest rate hikes make it more expensive to pay off bonds and cars where variable interest is in charge. But it could help the economy to cool down if prices are rising too much – and it makes the Rand more attractive to foreign investors. To discuss we’re joined by the Chief Economist at Economists.co.za, Mike Schussler.
