Elites – Eskom – ZUMA – Gupta

Elites neem hande en was hande saam.  Ramaphosa is vir hoeveel jare die regterhand van Zuma.

Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises on Wednesday heard evidence from two witnesses.

The former Finance Director Tsholofelo Molefe and Group Executive Legal and Compliance Suzanne Daniels gave evidence during the inquiry into Eskom’s mismanagement of public funds.

Daniels described to the Committee payments made by Eskom to Trillian and McKinsey under the second contract paid between August 2016 and February 2017 as brazen theft.

The comment came whilst she was questioned by the evidence leader of the inquiry Advocate Nthuthuzelo Vanara.

The payments to Trillian and McKinsey were about R1.6bn.

Responding to questions, Daniels said she had met Ajay Gupta who wanted information about former Eskom CEO Brain Molefe’s court proceeding.

Gupta said  Molefe’s hearing should take place after December 2017.

“At the meeting on  July 29, 2017 there was Ajay Gupta, Duduzane Zuma, Deputy Minister of Public Enterprises  Ben Martins, Salim Essa and a

lady I did not recognise, I am convinced that state capture is real”, said Daniels.

She told members of the Committee that she is receiving death threats from her phone but they soon disappeared.

Messages such as “if you know what is good for you, you would shut up”, said Daniels.

“I have had break ins in my house, I have been followed, bullied on the road and there is no doubt that my phone is tapped”, she said.

The Committee expressed concern on the death threats Daniels is allegedly receiving.

Daniels also told the Committee about a meeting she had on March 9, 2015 where she  first met with the Guptas.

In that meeting she was informed that four executives from Eskom would be suspended.

“What I did not know is that the suspension would happen the following day”, she said.

Earlier on whilst giving her evidence before the Committee, Molefe said the day before her suspension she had heard rumors that she would be suspended.

Her reason for her suspension by the board was that she was not playing ball, by refusing to sign the New Age deal and the Regiments contract.

Molefe said former Acting CEO  Collin Matjila had pressurised her to contravene procurement processes which she refused.

Molefe was suspended with former CEO Tshediso Matona, Dan Marokane, and  Matshela Koko who was later reinstated.

Daniels is currently under suspension.

McKinsey’s new global head has apologised to South Africans for work the firm did with friends of former president Jacob Zuma. The ill-fated deal tarnished the reputation of the world’s biggest consultancy. On Friday, power utility Eskom said it had finalised a settlement agreement with McKinsey to pay back one billion rand which was unlawfully paid out to the consultancy. Speaking in Johannesburg this morning, Kevin Sneader, who started as McKinsey’s global managing partner last week, said the firm has appointed a new head of its Africa division and replaced its South African finance, legal and compliance staff.

ZUMA AND THE GUPTAS
Jacob Zuma was forced from office by his own party, the African National Congress, when almost a decade’s worth of corruption, bribery and racketeering allegations finally became too great to ignore.

During President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address on Thursday evening, he announced that in order to turn around the embattled state power utility, three separate entities will be established to deal with generation, transmission and distribution under Eskom Holdings.    “To bring credibility to the turnaround and to position South Africa’s power sector for the future, we shall immediately embark on a process of establishing three separate entities – Generation, Transmission and Distribution – under Eskom Holdings.
