SCORES of parents have gathered outside Richards Bay Primary School, Meerensee, Richards Bay, exhibiting great concern over the apparent lack of communication with them. This comes after confirmation that a Richards Bay Primary School pupil has tested positive for the coronavirus – the first known case in Richards Bay and Zululand. The child and the doctor who treated her are in quarantine. No one is being allowed in and out of the school premises.
What is known is that a Department of Health team is already inside the school, meeting with school authorities. It is understood that health officials plan to take swabs from all of the children with results apparently available immediately. The school is waiting for a second Department of Health team to arrive. Police are in attendance and there is a high level of anxiety. Fearful parents have expressed discontent as information from authorities has not been forthcoming. Police earlier calmed upset parents, informing them of the process currently under way.
