Carte Blanche looked into what’s been happening at a well-known dance academy based in Gauteng is pretty jarring. The police are still conducting their investigation, so the charges remain unproven, but multiple witnesses point to serious crimes having been committed. Where is the justice system?
For a number of girls attending a well-known dance academy in Gauteng, dreams of making it big on the stage have turned to dust as they say they were exposed to a sex grooming ring in the school. Speaking out for the first time, three of the learners and their mothers reveal how the allegations of grooming and sexual assault have impacted their lives while their cases remain in the hands of police.

An independent four year old private school in Brits is turning brainy learners into industry ready professional dancers. Founded by world renowned Latin American dancer, arts activists and dance adjudicator Tebogo Kgobokoe, the school boasts of A students, that are champions in different dance categories.

Miss Kgobokoe remains the undefeated South African Professional Ballroom Champion, she has been the undefeated Latin American South African Champion seven consecutive times and a world class professional Latin American Finalist.
Additionally, she is trained and educated in Lyrical/ Disco, Contemporary, Ballet, Traditional Setswana dance (including singing), Afro-fusion and Spanish. Having qualified as a dance teacher at the age of 16, she is an acclaimed Dance coach, adjudicator and choreographer and has produced World Champion Latin American and Ballroom dancers in South Africa and abroad.
The Tebogo Kgobokoe Arts Academy offers Boarding facilities from Grade 4 up to Grade 12 situated on our Study Centre premises. The facilities are secure, clean and designed to offer quality care for the students.
The aim of Boarding at the TKAA is to provide a safe and secure environment for the personal and academic development of each boarding student. The ethos aims to reflect, as far as is possible in a communal environment, the best values of family life. The Boarding experience encourages tolerance, respect for others, kindness, spiritual and moral awareness and self-discipline. It develops independence and the strength and ability of the individual to function as part of a team.
Care is taken to ensure a similar ethos and atmosphere across the Boarding Houses, whilst at the same time maintaining the individual character of each House and ensuring a progression of responsibilities and privileges commensurate with the different age groups. Visiting days are on the last Saturday of every month were learners get to spend the day with family and friends on the Study Centre premises. Should any competition fall on such a weekend.
