China, Viëtnam en Suid-Afrika het opnuut ooreenkomste onderteken en versterk, veral op die gebied van opleiding, logistiek en militêre uniforms.
China and Vietnam have strengthened defence cooperation with the South African National Defence Force (SANDF), notably in the fields of training, logistics and military uniforms.
According to the SANDF’s Logistics Formation, Chinese and Vietnamese delegations embarked on a benchmarking visit to the division between 31 August and 3 September with the aim of studying logistics training, structure and planning, reviewing the SANDF’s defence works capability and establishing a clothing factory for the production of military uniforms.
The delegations focussed on areas of interest within the SANDF including training processes, the deployment of logistics personnel, experience in outsourcing military logistics functions to civilian companies and experience in the deployment of the logistics personnel on peacekeeping missions.
Memorandums of Understanding between the Department of Defence, Vietnam and China cover defence cooperation and logistics cooperation.
The Chinese delegation included the General Manager, Xiao Yong, of Xinxing Jihua International Trade Co, a subsidiary of Jihua Group Corporation Limited, which manufactures and distributes military light industrial products in China and around the world.
The Vietnamese delegation included Major General Tran Duy Giang, Chief of the General Department of Logistics in Vietnam, who led a delegation from Vietnam’s military. They met the SANDF’s chief of logistics, Lieutenant General Jabulani Mbuli.
The logistics visit was preceded by a Vietnamese military delegation visiting the Chief of the South African National Defence Force, General Solly Shoke on 6 August. The Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans subsequently met the Vietnamese delegation at the end of August.
