Taiwan bridge collapsed

A bridge collapsed in northeastern Taiwan on Tuesday injuring at least 14 people as it smashed down on to fishing vessels moored underneath and sent a petrol tanker plummeting into the water.  At least 14 injured; rescuers fear six trapped.

Dramatic CCTV images captured the moment the 140-metre long single-arch bridge came crashing down in Nanfangao, on Taiwan’s eastern coast.     A petrol tanker can be seen almost making it across the bridge.   Minutes later, the truck burst into flames.       The bridge was built in 1998 and the cause of the collapse is under investigation.

Rescuers were scrambling on Tuesday to reach six people feared trapped after a bridge collapsed in Taiwan, smashing onto a group of fishing boats moored underneath.

Drone footage from Taiwan’s Military News Agency shows the aftermath of a bridge collapse in the country’s east.
