It was noted that the NPA was established in August 1998 in terms of the NPA Act. There were 4 objectives at that stage:
– To create a national office.
– To create an efficient service.
– To transform the service to make it more credible.
– To lend a hand in the fight against crime.

An organisational structure was developed with financial assistance from the British government. The office of the NPA has four divisions:
– Organised crime and public safety.
– Professional support (dealing with constitutional matters, legislation and extradition).
– Legal services.
– Administration.
Within each of these divisions there are a number of units.

Nathan Kirsch is ‘n Swazilandse biljoenêr. Volgens Forbes se ranglys is hy die 435e rykste man ter wêreld.

The Presidency has confirmed that 12 candidates have been shortlisted for the position of National Director of Public Prosecutions.

The list was compiled by an advisory panel led by Energy Minister Jeff Radebe appointed by President Cyril Ramaphosa to search for suitable names to replace Shaun Abrahams whose appointment was declared invalid and set aside by the Constitutional Court in August.

Gauteng top prosecutor Andrew Chauke, DA MP and former Scorpions boss Glynnis Breytenbach and acting NPA head Silas Ramaite are in the running for the job.

Interviews are set to take place between 14 and 16 November, after which the panel will whittle down the names to three possible candidates.

The president is then expected to appoint the next NDPP from the three.

“Twelve candidates have been nominated from the total of 40 that had both applied as well as nominated. As indicated before, the president is on track to ensure that by the deadline that was given by the Constitutional Court, the position of the NDPP would’ve been filled through a very open and transparent process,” presidential spokesperson Khusela Diko said.

The shortlist is made up of the following candidates:

Adv S Batohi

Adv G Breytenbach G

Adv K M Chauke

Adv J R De Kock

Adv A Johnson

Adv M Luphondo

Adv M Makhari

Adv N Manaka

Mr S X Mapoma

Adv C S Mlotshwa

Adv D M Noko

Adv M S Ramaite
