Annette Jooste (58) drove from Vereeniging to Mossel Bay in search of a better life. Friends offered her a job there. But what she thought was a good deed cost her her life. Two people who she gave a lift to were arrested in connection with her murder last Sunday.
Police managed to trace Anette’s cellphone and car to Vereeniging and found it in the possession of Chene Chantel Verwey (48) and Mandla Khumalo (28). Annette informed her 2 sisters that she would give a lift to the 2 people who have now been arrested in connection with her murder.
The two accused were people who Annette knew but they were not close friends. Annette and the accused departed to Mossel Bay in June and they slept over in Aliwal North at the home of family of Verwey.
Annette was never seen alive again. Her body was found with a single gunshot wound to the head on 13 June on the road between George and Colesberg. Verwey will be applying for bail on Tuesday in Graaf-Reinet. They will reappear on Tuesday 23 July for a bail application.
There is a previous outstanding warrant of arrest for Khumalo.
Twee verdagtes in hegtenis geneem.
Nadat die liggaam van ‘n vrou van Vereeniging langs die pad naby Graaff-Reinet in die Oos-Kaap gevind is, het die polisie van die Karoo dorp onverpoosd gesoek na die twee verdagtes wat saam met haar die in haar voertuig was waarmee sy na haar suster in Port Alfred op pad was.
Annette Jooste van Eeden (59) se liggaam is op 13 Junie langs die N9, in die rigting van Middelburg, gevind. Twee inwoners van Vereeniging is in gearresteer en het Maandag 15 Julie in die landdroshof op Graaff-Reinet in die hof verskyn.
Ao, Leon Weitz van die polisie op Graaf-Reinet, het saam met ao. Andrè Pienaar, konst. Chris Pretorius en sers. Rowan Nash van die Vereeniging-polisiekantoor, Sondag 14 Julie vir Chenè Chantell Verwey (48) en Mandla Khumalo (28) gearresteer.
